Tony Clements to serve as the United Way of Champaign County’s Interim CEO
United Way of Champaign County Board of Directors Chair, Bob Mulcahey, announced this morning (July 27, 2012) that Tony Clements will serve as interim President and CEO while the board conducts the search to permanently fill the position. Tony was the long time Director of Campus Recreation at the University of Illinois. He joined the Board of Directors at United Way shortly after his retirement from the university and last year served as the United Way campaign chair.
According to Mulcahey, “Tony was willing to step forward and serve in this capacity. He has been a tremendous board member and volunteer and our organization is very fortunate to have him step in at this critical time for the annual campaign.”
Outgoing President and CEO, Lyn Jones, credits Tony with one of their most visible projects in the community. “Tony initiated our campaign kickoff event, Stuff the Bus, two years ago after learning about a similar event in Indiana. Tony is one of the most creative people I know and will be a tremendous asset for our campaign volunteers and staff.
Clements will assume his interim role in August.
