You have spent years supporting your community. You have invested in lives, changing them for the better as our neighbors benefited from your generosity - becoming more safe, secure, and stable. You have been able to give to a cause most dear to your heart and had the peace of mind to know your dollars were being put to use to meet the greatest need. Let us help you continue that support!
Most people are familiar with giving via payroll deduction, credit card or check. Did you know there are many other ways you can make your gift? Here are just a few. To learn more, contact Becca Guyette, Chief Development Officer, at 217-352-5151 or via email.
Give from your IRA
Did you know that taxpayers 70½ and older are required to take annual distributions from an IRA? These are ultimately subject to taxation. But there’s a way to save on your taxes – and support our community.
With rollover contributions from your IRA, you can donate up to $100,000 each year to charitable organizations such as United Way – completely tax-free. Simply let your broker or fund manager know you'd like to donate all or part of your QCD to United Way. We suggest beginning this process no later than December 22 for year-end giving.
Gift of Stock
Transferring appreciated stocks allows you to avoid paying capital gains tax, and deduct the full amount of your gift from your tax return. To initiate a stock transfer, simply have your portfolio manager call Katie Braemer, Director of Finance, at 217-352-5151 for instructions. Please note these gifts take a few business days to process, so we suggest beginning this process by December 23 for year-end giving.
Include United Way in your Will
A will is important for everyone and can be useful regardless of estate size. It can also be a way to support the people and causes important to you. Having a will ensures that your wishes are known. United Way has partnered with FreeWill, where you can create a free will in as little as 20 minutes. Visit the website to learn more or get started today.
Endowment Gifts
When you make an endowment gift, you create a steady stream of annual income to forever support United Way’s critical work. Endowment gifts may be made at any time, or can be created as part of an estate plan. To learn more, contact Becca Guyette, Chief Development Officer, at 217-352-5151 or via email.
Check
Please make checks payable to United Way of Champaign County. For year-end giving, checks must be postmarked by December 31. In 2023, 2028, and 2034, the 31st falls on a Sunday, so checks must be postmarked by December 30.
Credit Card
For year-end giving, credit cards must be processed online by 11:59pm Central Time on December 31. We also accept credit card gifts over the phone during business hours.
