United Way of Champaign County kicked off their 90th year with positive news: the annual campaign has topped the goal of $3.4 million dollars. As of February 20, 2014 over $3.417 million had been raised to support Education, Health & Well-Being, Financial Stability and Community Basics programs. This is the seventh year in a row United Way has exceeded the campaign goal.
United Way also presented three Spirit of Caring awards, the organization’s highest honor for volunteerism and philanthropy. The recipients were PNC Bank, Pepsi-Cola C-U Bottling Company and Kim & Denise Martin.
“In 2013 we talked about ‘This Place We Call Home’, and I think that really resonated with donors. United Way supporters come from all sorts of professions and walks of life. Our common thread is that we all care deeply about Champaign County. We’re working together to support those in need,” remarked Sue Grey, President & CEO.
“We were ambitious when we raised the goal to $3.4 million, knowing that in 2012 we received several large, one-time gifts. In addition to outstanding workplace campaign support, we were entrusted with several unexpected special gifts. We’re so grateful the community places trust in United Way to ensure their gifts are making the most impact on our community,” said Emmie Fisher, campaign co-chair.
Final results were received this week from LyondellBasell and Jeld-Wen to set the campaign over the $3.4 million goal. Six-figure gifts from Carle Foundation Hospital to support Promise Healthcare and from the Penn State University settlement to support child sexual abuse prevention programming added to the support from over 200 workplace giving campaigns.
The annual campaign has four months remaining. “Every gift over our campaign goal allows United Way programs to change even more lives. This year United Way received over $4 million in funding requests, proving that our community needs to continue to raise the bar when it comes to giving,” remarked Mike Ross, campaign co-chair.
United Way of Champaign County’s annual campaign runs through June 30. The organization is currently undergoing biennial program funding reviews.
