March 1, 2017 -- Youth in Champaign County have a new substance abuse Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) thanks to Rosecrance Champaign/Urbana and a $20,000 Special Opportunities grant from United Way of Champaign County.
United Way’s grant will allow Rosecrance to hire a clinician and begin serving youth and their families. The Intensive Outpatient Program focuses on recovery skills while teens remain in their home environment. Participating in evidence-based treatment, teens are guided to achieve abstinence from alcohol and other drugs and taught new coping skills. Assesments for this program are free. Rosecrance operates a similar program in Rockford, IL.
“Increasing access to behavioral health services is one of United Way’s Community Goals. We’re proud to provide funds to ‘Close the Gap’ and help Rosecrance bring this important program to youth and families in our community.” said Sue Grey, President & CEO of United Way of Champaign County. In our 2015 Community Report, community members and social service agencies cited a dire need for expanded mental and behavioral health services and capacity in Champaign County. After homelessness, lack of mental and behavioral health services was the second-most cited challenge facing the community.

Funding is provided by United Way of Champaign County’s Special Opportunities grant program, a division of the Community Impact Fund. Special Opportunities grants allow United Way to respond to community needs that present outside of the organization’s traditional funding cycle. These include extending a program to a new geographic area or community, availability of new or additional outside funding to significantly expand or improve an existing community impact program, and development of a pilot program.
